Support Humane and Ethical Farming Standards
We invite you to speak out about a new law that bans foie gras on July 1. The ban goes too far. It would lead to the widespread production and sale of contraband, black-market foie gras that would be dangerous to animal welfare and customers – a far cry from the humane and ethical treatment of animals we all believe in.
Please join us by adding your name to the letter below. We'll collect all signatures and deliver them to the California legislature:
Dear Senate President pro Tem Steinberg and Speaker Perez,
I believe in eating food that is humanely and ethically treated. That’s why I am joining with chefs and restaurants to ask you to enact new, strict regulations – such as the California Humane and Ethical Foie Gras Act – that will serve as an example to the rest of the world.
The total ban on foie gras, effective on July 1, goes too far. If we ban foie gras, animals will be the victims of a newly-created black market. But if we regulate the industry instead, we can use the power of the California economy to reform farming practices around the world.
Please take action on this important matter, enact strict new regulations and send a message around the globe that California is going to be the leader in the ethical and humane treatment of animals.
